Brogan Perez 10th Birthday
Interest:
So you're not asking for too much, right?

I decided to completely redecorate his room. From boring grey to minecraft all the way. And here's how.

All those things on your wishlist are fun things. They'll last you HOURS of entertainment.
I decided to give you something else. Something longer lasting, more meaningful. Something that shows you I see you, I see your interest, and I want something special for you.
Painting your room came with many hours looking up your love for minecraft. Learning the colors, finding out a balance between painting your green and it not becoming tacky.
I spent many hours after you went to bed in Pinterest and Blog searches looking for inspiration.
Materials:
Paint from Lowes was brighter than Home Depot so I went that direction. I found many Pinterest inspired things and well... just made something of them all.
Paint colors: All are in Satin
Bright Parrot - The base green. _ Paint and needed 2 coats.
Tuxedo - The black wall and the creeper
Grey Suit - for the grey lines on the brick wall.
Awakening - the light and bright green squares on the side wall
Ultra Bright - another shade of green blocks
Luscious Green - Another shade of green blocks
LED Lights - went under the bed
Other things you'll need:
Wet Rag - It turns out that you can wipe the errors of wet paint off easily with an old wet shirt for a rag.
Paint Mud tool - gives you that straight line and didn't bleed the paint under making these perfect squares
Ruler - I measured 13x13 squares. That's important b/c smaller wouldn't work and larger would be too big.
Level - I held the level for every line I wrote. It turns out walls are wonky and I wanted them to be close to possible a perfect square.
Pencil and Sharpener - you'll be surprised how dull it gets and I moved our electric sharpener in there
Podcast - Something to hold your attention and listen to because this will take a few days.
- The Creeper Details: Each eye is 4 blocks together of the 13x13 size each. 6 in the middle going down for his nose and mouth area and then on the side there's 3 more going down.
- The Brick Wall: The room was already that base grey color all over. I went to find a color that matched but a shade darker to make the grout line look. I had a block in the yard and went to measure that and then came in and yes it took forever to measure the lines on the wall with the ruler and level. 4 hours later... I was painting it.
If you need to rest but not ready to clean up, you cover the paint and brush with that damp rag and it'll stay for you for a little bit. NOT all day, be sure to come back after lunch or something.
Funny:
My Dad was a painter in my childhood so I called him for questions. One being about painters tape.
He says that the professionals don't use the stuff and it's a waste of time. A pro will learn to cut straight lines.
I got started and he asked if I taped.. I said no the pro's don't use it.
He said, "I wouldn't consider you a pro, yet Liz".
hahhahahah, he's right, but I didn't use it anyway.
He came in for the birthday and helped me paint and teach me how to clean the tools. Saying next time a 5gallon bucket and that rack for painting would be better than tall the disposable things I grabbed. AND to get a good brush!
You clean the brush and stuff with a hose and then bang the brush out on your foot or wall to get the excess out. And putting it back in the sleeve (don't throw it away) will hold the expensive brush's shape.
The Details and Links:
Steve - IS a sticker from etsy.
Here's the link because he LOVED this! link: Steve Sticker
Then I added the torch for the light switches. Link: Torch
He was supposed to have a cool name come in game letters, but it never arrived.
Painting a wall black for the first time isn't easy, well mostly because I really want the room to feel on purpose and at this point it still didn't. It ALL came together nicely b/c there is color of each on the other walls and this made the room feel DONE and not tacky. The details of the sticker and the torch helped pull it all together.
1:00am A Mother's Love. - That's the unseen gift.
Still at it. That first night took a long time to do the brick wall and I stayed up longer to do the first layer of the black wall.
