Our Beautiful Ordinary Life

Saturday morning

Family Photography

Lawton, Oklahoma with Liz Perez

A family documenting a Saturday morning in Lawton, Oklahoma to preserve this moment of being 4 years old. That comes with the tangles, messy room, and daddy saying you are most important with his actions.

Good Morning Briar.

Not so much a baby anymore. I've enjoyed so many differences b/c raising a few boys and now you're here to show us all the same things but so very differently.

For one, you can sit still for a really long time in your activity. Painting, writing letters, or making the perler beads you're so content.  I thought I'd be the girl mom who..... but it turns out that nothing I thought is how it's going down. You have your own way, your own opinions, and I believe as Charlotte Mason teaches "you are born persons".   I'm learning you're very much tomboy in a dress. You are tough as your brothers, but soft and have this interest in a beauty salon.

I think you loved the salon so much from last year when you cut your own bangs and we went over to Fletcher, Oklahoma and see Mrs. Tatum. You loved getting your hair washed, and it was the first time I've really seen you let someone brush your curls out without any complaining. More than than, you were thrilled.  You started playing Beauty Salon after that around the house.

Granna was the first person you let fix your hair at home.

It's so fun for me to watch you when you take your Army Colonel of a dad to your beauty salon.  You turn this hard, sometimes cold in the office, guy into this amazing dad. He doesn't have hair, but that means you can decorate it. You paint his nails and toe nails. Most recently you've let him do your hair. That's what these photos are of.

As a documentary family photographer in Lawton, Oklahoma I'm always looking for the moments to save that lock this phase of life in place. Moments when playing salon is all that matters in the world and when daddy plays to he's too pressed paused on adulting and entered this time stood still record of time.

The best gift is to be seen.
