You don't need your kids to sit still.
You need photographs of who they are right now.
The crooked smile.
The way she still reaches for your hand.
The boy who never stops moving.
Dad throwing everyone onto the bed.
The baby who won't be this little much longer.
The kitchen covered in crumbs.
The ordinary Tuesday that you don't realize you'll miss until it's gone.
I'm Liz Perez, a documentary family and motherhood photographer serving Lawton, Fort Sill, and Southwest Oklahoma.
I photograph families as they actually are—not perfectly posed, perfectly behaved, or perfectly put together.
You bring your people.
I'll pay attention.
You're gonna cry, btw.
Your final gallery will have moments that you feel but often can't see. Like your youngest holding you tight, you often can't see their expression of love, peace, safety they find in you. BUT I can, and I'll save the details for you both to cherish.

What if your family photo session didn't feel like a photo session?
Maybe your kids run everywhere.
Maybe your toddler refuses to cooperate.
Maybe your husband isn't exactly excited about having his picture taken.
Maybe you're tired of being the person behind the camera.
Good.
You don't have to perform for me.
I'll give you a little direction when you need it, but most of the time, we're going to let your family do what your family already does.
Play.
Run.
Snuggle.
Wrestle.
Make pancakes.
Go get ice cream.
Swim.
Hang out in the backyard.
Whatever feels like you.
Because those are the photographs I want.
Kids won't sit.
And that's the point.
Childhood is movement.
It's bare feet.
Sticky hands.
Big feelings.
Crazy hair.
The way they climb all over Dad.
The way they still reach for Mama.
The things they do that you swear you'll remember forever.
And then one day...
they don't do them anymore.
I'm there to notice.
The big things.
The tiny things.
The things you didn't even know you needed photographed.
Mama, you're supposed to be in these.
You have main character energy.
You probably have thousands of pictures of your children.
How many are you actually in?
Not selfies.
Not the blurry arm's-length pictures.
You.
Show up in your story. Mothers are often the unseen storytellers of their families.
YOU
Holding them.
Laughing with them.
Comforting them.
Making their breakfast.
Sitting beside them.
Being their safe place.
Your children deserve photographs of their childhood with you in it.
And someday, when they're grown, these won't be pictures you criticize yourself in.
They'll be photographs they treasure.
Because you were there.
This is your family.
Not a Pinterest family.
Not a perfectly behaved family.
Yours.
And that's exactly who I want to photograph.
